The Four Types, Honestly Compared

• Bounce houses. An enclosed jumping area, sometimes themed. Best for ages 3–10, best value for a straightforward birthday party. $150–$250.
• Combo units. A bounce floor plus a slide and usually a climbing wall. Holds older kids’ attention considerably longer than a plain bounce house. $200–$325.
• Water slides. Summer only, realistically. Single or dual lane, 15 to 22+ feet. $250–$500+.
• Obstacle courses. Long, linear, competitive. These are the right answer for school and church events far more often than for backyard parties.

What “Inflatable” Means for Your Yard

The Central advantage is straightforward: you can usually fit the unit you actually want rather than the one that squeezes in. Most homes here sit on large lots, and the setup surface is generally grass, which anchors better and sets up faster than concrete.

Three things to check before you book, in order of how often they cause a problem:

• Overhead clearance. Trees are the number one constraint in Central, not ground space.
• Access path. We need to walk a rolled unit from the truck to the setup spot. A standard gate is fine; a narrow side return with a turn in it sometimes isn’t.
• Power within about 100 feet. The blower runs continuously. On larger properties, tell us if the setup point is well away from the house.

Vocabulary, Because It Varies Around Here

You’ll hear these units called a lot of things locally — bounce house, moon bounce, jump house, fun jump, bouncy castle, and around Baton Rouge especially, spacewalk. They’re the same category of equipment. If you grew up calling it a spacewalk, that’s what we have.
