Banquet Season in a Sports Town
Walker High has been playing football since 1921 and the town takes it seriously. That shows up in our linen bookings more than you’d expect: end-of-season banquets, booster dinners, awards nights and signing-day events make up a large share of the formal work we do here.
Athletic banquets have a particular shape. Large headcount, everyone seated at once, a long program from a podium, and a head table that will be photographed all evening. That’s a different order from a wedding, and it’s worth building it as one.
What a Banquet Order Actually Contains
Guest rounds are the bulk of it, but the tables that get remembered are the working ones: the head table, the awards or trophy display, the check-in table at the door, and the buffet line. Every one needs a cloth, and every one is routinely left off the count because people order by guest number rather than by table.
Walk the room and list every surface that will have something on it. That list is your order.
School Colors and Lead Time
If your event is tied to a school or a team, you almost certainly want specific colors — and colors are where linen availability actually bites. Seating is interchangeable; a particular color in a particular size either exists that weekend or it doesn’t.
Banquet season clusters tightly at the end of each sporting season, which means every booster club in the parish wants the same two weeks of dates and often the same two colors. Order as early as you can.
Venue Tables Are Rarely Standard
Most Walker banquets happen in school cafeterias, gyms and church halls using the venue’s own tables — frequently bought decades apart and rarely the sizes anyone assumes. Measure them: length and width or diameter, plus height, since height determines how far the cloth hangs.
