Historic Venues Have Rules
St. Francisville’s event calendar runs on its history. Rosedown Plantation, the Audubon State Historic Site, Butler Greenwood, the Myrtles, Cottage Plantation and the 1807 historic district give the parish a venue list most small towns could not dream of — and every one of them comes with conditions.
The single most important thing to establish before renting anything: what may be driven into the ground, and where. Historic properties and state sites routinely prohibit staking, sometimes over the entire grounds. That is not a detail — it determines whether a tent or an inflatable can be installed at all, and if so with what kind of ballast.
Questions to Settle With the Venue First
- Staking or weights? If staking is prohibited, weighted anchoring is the alternative, and it needs planning and room.
- Vehicle access. Many historic grounds restrict where a truck may drive, and gravel avenues and mature root systems both matter.
- Power. Older properties often have very limited outdoor supply. Assume a generator until told otherwise.
- Insurance. Almost always required. Tell us who needs the certificate and we’ll send it.

Weddings and Destination Events
A large share of what happens here is somebody’s wedding weekend. That means multiple events across two or three days, guests who have traveled, and a schedule with no slack in it.
Book earlier than feels necessary. Spring and autumn wedding season in West Feliciana is booked out well ahead, and it competes with festival dates for the same weekends.
Community and Heritage Events
Alongside the private events, the parish runs its own calendar — including the three-day reenactment marking the day in June 1863 when the war stopped for a burial. Heritage events have their own logistics: long durations, visitors on foot, and a need for shade and seating rather than attractions.
