Popcorn works year-round and travels well to a field. It also does something useful at a spread-out rural event: the smell gives people a reason to gather in one place, which is harder to achieve on ten acres than in a back yard.
Cotton candy is the crowd-pleaser for younger children and the slowest to serve. Worth it if someone will staff it properly.
Power Is the Deciding Factor
This is the practical issue on acreage, and it’s worth settling before you choose anything. Every machine needs a standard outlet running continuously.
At a barn or field event, the outlet is usually at the house or the shed and the event is somewhere else. Measure the run. If it’s beyond a normal extension, tell us and we’ll plan a generator into the order — that’s a straightforward thing to arrange in advance and a genuinely awkward one to solve at two in the afternoon.
Shade for the Operator
Put the machine under the tent, not beside it. On open ground the sun is relentless, and standing over a hot machine in it is a miserable job that somebody you like has volunteered for.
